Due to the heavy traffic and busy fishing season that takes up all of July in Alaska it has been requested that we move the event 2-3 weeks earlier to avoid the congestion. This places us during the last weekend in June. With more sunlight and less traffic this should be an ideal time of year. The water will be a bit colder and their will be more snow on the mountain with possibility of more extreme weather, but if you know anything about extreme triathlons, you know that's where we live and thrive! Lottery registration for our 3rd edition of this Alaskan tradition will open fall of this year with winners being drawn just 1-2 weeks after the close of that lottery. Stay tuned for more information.
Anchorage, Alaska native Will Ross won the 2018 edition of the Alaskaman Extreme Triathlon this Saturday, July 21 with the next closest male competitor coming in just over 45-minutes later. Ross had been targeting the event when he first learned about it during it's inaugural year in 2017. This was Ross's first full distance triathlon and first ever marathon distance run coming in with an insanely fast time of 11:33:06 on what is arguably one of the hardest courses, especially the run, in the entire world. In second place was Norway's Heiko Sepp, a renown talent from Europe having done Norseman many times placing in the top ten at that competition. His time was a blistering fast 12:18:45. 3rd place for the day was claimed by Andrey Esipov of Kenmore, Washington coming in at a 12:55:14. Mackie Derrick, another Anchorage, Alaska resident took 4th with a massive rise in his ranking over his inaugural year's placement.
Morgan Chaffin returned this Saturday to defend her title of the Alaskaman Extreme Triathlon. With only one thing on her mind, crossing the finish line first, Morgan took to the icy waters of Resurrection Bay where she wasn't just the lead female to exit the water, but she also beat all other competitors. Chaffin set a course record of 1:05:45 which was nearly 1-minute ahead of the men's overall winner, Will Ross. On the bike Chaffin through down one of the top ten fastest rides of the day putting her over 45-minutes ahead of second place Anchorage, Alaska local Amber Stull, who came into transition in second place. 17.5-miles into the run Stull had made up over 30-minutes (of the 45-minute lead) on Chaffin as they started the 10-miles on Mt. Alyeska. When all was said and done Stull was able to chip away 10 of the remaining 13-minute lead on Chaffin but Chaffin gritted it out held on to win her second title in a hard fought and well deserved win. 3rd place was claimed by Jessica Lukasik of Seattle Washington. Lukasik finished the swim in-between Chaffin and Stull, then behind them both on the bike but beat both their times on the run by 23-64min enabling her to finish within 7-minutes of the two leaders. This was the second time both Chaffin and Stull had competed in Alaskaman, it was Lukasik's first. Taking fourth place was Jessica Anderson of Raleigh, North Carolina claiming the prestigious honor of being crowned Queen of the mountain completing the tough 10-miles on Alyeska in the fastest female time of 2:54:14!

Due to an overwhelming demand we have decided to open a waitlist. We are in the process of figuring out when/if we can accommodate those still wanting to get in and will reach out to those on the waitlist when/if anything opens up. We are not adding more people to the event, rather exploring the possibility of offering those that wish to cancel their registration (without insurance or a covered reason) a partial refund which would then open their spot for the next person on the waitlist wanting to event. This is not for certain. There is not guarantee we will offer partial refunds and no guarantee anyone on the waitlist will be allowed to register, we are simply exploring the possibility. We will let everyone know soon. In the meantime if you want to event and aren't signed up please signup for the waitlist, just in case, you never know!

ONURMARK PRODUCTIONS ANNOUNCES INAUGURAL ALASKAMAN™ EXTREME TRIATHLON
Beyond Your Dreams, Within Your Reach. ~Alaska State Slogan
Seward, Alaska, (May 16, 2016) Onurmark Productions ( onurmark.net ), specializing in the production of running and multisport events, today announced that they will produce the Inaugural Alaskaman™ Extreme Triathlon, from Seward to Girdwood, Alaska, on Saturday, July 15, 2017. This extreme triathlon, the first of it’s kind in North America, begins with a 2.4mile swim in the frigid waters (averaging 55°F) of Resurrection Bay leading athletes to a 112mile bike ride north through mountainous passageways (gain of 4,000’) on the awe-inspiring Seward Highway, and ending at Bird Creek (12miles west of Girdwood). The final leg, the 26.2mile marathon run, takes athletes along the Bird Creek Hike/Bike Trail back east towards Girdwood and up grueling Mt. Alyeska (4,000’ total gain in the last 6miles) to the finish, where breathtaking views await.
When asked, Onurmark founder and race director Aaron Palaian stated, “Onurmark Productions is all about hosting quality, well organized, challenging events. Events that push the limit of the human spirit and each individual’s physical ability to complete them in an environment that demands respect for nature and their fellow competitors. We believe that there’s no better place to do that in North America than Alaska. With it’s cold, clean, crisp water, gorgeous views, and challenging terrain, Seward, Girdwood, and Mt. Alyeska make for an extremely challenging yet rewarding race experience that will be cherished and remembered by these athletes for the rest of their lives.”
All participants must provide their own support crew, made up of at least one person. Everyone is also urged to read through the online event guide and website prior to registering. All Alaskaman™ Extreme Triathlon details are currently online at akxtri.com , where worldwide online registration will open on Sunday, July 17, 2016 at 3:00pm CST. The event is limited to only 300 spots and is expected to fill very quickly, with no wait list.
